Ancestors Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJK LMNGAOP

Behold these jewelled merchant AncestorsA
Foregathered in some chancellery of deathB
Calm provident discreet they stroke their beardsC
And move their faces slowly in the gloomD
And barter monstrous wealth with speech subduedE
Lustreless eyes and acquiescent lidsF
And oft in pauses of their conferenceG
They listen to the measured breath of night'sH
Hushed sweep of wind aloft the swaying treesI
In dimly gesturing gardens then a voiceJ
Climbs with clear mortal song half sad for heavenK
-
A silent footed message flits and bringsL
The ghostly Sultan from his glimmering hallsM
A shadow at the window turbaned vastN
He leans and pondering the sweet influenceG
That steals around him in remembered flowersA
Hears the frail music wind along the slopesO
Put forth and fade across the whispering seaP
