Spring germs spring germsA
I charge you by your life go back to deathB
This glebe is sick this wind is foul of breathB
Stay feed the wormsA
-
Oh every clodC
Is faint and falters from the war of growthD
And crumbles in a dreary dust of slothD
Unploughed untrodC
-
What need what needC
To hide with flowers the curse upon the hillsE
Or sanctify the banks of sluggish rillsE
Where vapors breedC
-
And if needs mustC
Advance O Summer heats upon the landC
And bake the bloody mould to shards and sandC
And dustC
-
Before your birthF
Burn up O Roses with your dainty flameG
Good Violets sweet Violets hide shameG
Below the earthF
-
Ye silent MillsE
Reject the bitter kindness of the mossE
O Farms protest if any tree embossE
The barren hillsE
-
Young Trade is deadC
And swart Work sullen sits in the hillside fernH
And folds his arms that find no bread to earnH
And bows his headC
-
Spring germs spring germsE
Albeit the towns have left you place to playI
I charge you sport not Winter owns to dayI
Stay feed the wormsE
-
