To J. D. H. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE DFDF DGDG

Killed at Surrey C H OctoberA
-
-
Dear friend forgive a wild lamentB
Insanely following thy flightC
I would not cumber thine ascentB
Nor drag thee back into the nightC
-
But the great sea winds sigh with meD
The fair faced stars seem wrinkled oldE
And I would that I might lie with theeD
There in the grave so cold so coldE
-
Grave walls are thick I cannot see theeD
And the round skies are far and steepF
A wild to quaff some cup of LetheD
Pain is proud and scorns to weepF
-
My heart breaks if it cling about theeD
And still breaks if far from thineG
O drear drear death to live without theeD
O sad life to keep thee mineG
