The Dying Words Of Stonewall Jackson Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEED FGGF HIJH KLLK CMMC BNNB O

Order A P Hill to prepare for battleA
Tell Major Hawks to advance the Commissary trainB
Let us cross the river and rest in the shadeC
-
-
The stars of Night contain the glittering DayD
And rain his glory down with sweeter graceE
Upon the dark World's grand enchanted faceE
All loth to turn awayD
-
And so the Day about to yield his breathF
Utters the stars unto the listening NightG
To stand for burning fare thee wells of lightG
Said on the verge of deathF
-
O hero life that lit us like the sunH
O hero words that glittered like the starsI
And stood and shone above the gloomy warsJ
When the hero life was doneH
-
The phantoms of a battle came to dwellK
I' the fitful vision of his dying eyesL
Yet even in battle dreams he sends suppliesL
To those he loved so wellK
-
His army stands in battle line arrayedC
His couriers fly all's done now God decideM
And not till then saw he the Other SideM
Or would accept the shadeC
-
Thou Land whose sun is gone thy stars remainB
Still shine the words that miniature his deedsN
O thrice beloved where'er thy great heart bleedsN
Solace hast thou for painB
