Resurrection Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ EEEE ABAB

Sometimes in morning sunlights by the riverA
Where in the early fall long grasses waveB
Light winds from over the moorland sink and shiverA
And sigh as if just blown across a graveB
-
And then I pause and listen to this sighingC
I look with strange eyes on the well known streamD
I hear wild birth cries uttered by the dyingC
I know men waking who appear to dreamD
-
Then from the water lilies slow uprisesE
The still vast face of all the life I knowF
Changed now and full of wonders and surprisesE
With fire in eyes that once were glazed with snowF
-
Fair now the brows old Pain had erewhile wrinkledG
And peace and strength about the calm mouth dwellH
Clean of the ashes that Repentance sprinkledG
The meek head poises like a flower bellH
-
All the old scars of wanton wars are vanishedI
And what blue bruises grappling Sense had leftJ
And sad remains of redder stains are banishedI
And the dim blotch of heart committed theftJ
-
O still vast vision of transfigured featuresE
Unvisited by secret crimes or doomsE
Remain remain amid these water creaturesE
Stand shine among yon water lily bloomsE
-
For eighteen centuries ripple down the riverA
And windy times the stalks of empires waveB
Let the winds come from the moor and sigh and shiverA
Fain fain am I O Christ to pass the graveB
