Our Hills Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBB CCDDD EEFFF GGHHH AAIII JJGGGG

Dear Mother EarthA
Of Titan birthA
Yon hills are your large breasts and often IB
Have climbed to their top nipples fain and dryB
To drink my mother's milk so near the skyB
-
O ye hill stainsC
Red for all rainsC
The blood that made you has all bled for usD
The hearts that paid you are all dead for usD
The trees that shade you groan with lead for usD
-
And O hill sidesE
Like giants' bridesE
Ye sleep in ravine rumpled draperiesF
And weep your springs in tearful memoriesF
Of days that stained your robes with stains like theseF
-
Sleep on ye hillsG
Weep on ye rillsG
The stainers have decreed the stains shall stayH
They chain the hands might wash the stains awayH
They wait with cold hearts till we rue the dayH
-
O Mother EarthA
Of Titan birthA
Thy mother's milk is curdled with aloeI
Like hills Men lift calm heads through any woeI
And weep but bow not an inch for any foeI
-
Thou Sorrow heightJ
We climb by nightJ
Thou hast no hell deep chasm save DisgraceG
To stoop will fling us down its fouled spaceG
Stand proud The Dawn will meet us face to faceG
For down steep hills the Dawn loves best to raceG
