Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAA BBB AAA CCC DDD EEE AAA FFF G

Fair is the wedded reign of Night and DayA
Each rules a half of earth with different swayA
Exchanging kingdoms East and West alwayA
-
Like the round pearl that Egypt drunk in wineB
The sun half sinks i' the brimming rosy brineB
The wild Night drinks all up how her eyes shineB
-
Now the swift sail of straining life is furledA
And through the stillness of my soul is whirledA
The throbbing of the hearts of half the worldA
-
I hear the cries that follow Birth and DeathC
I hear huge Pestilence draw his vaporous breathC
Beware prepare or else ye die he saithC
-
I hear a haggard student turn and sighD
I hear men begging Heaven to let them dieD
And drowning all a wild eyed woman's cryD
-
So Night takes toll of Wisdom as of SinE
The student's and the drunkard's cheek is thinE
But flesh is not the prize we strive to winE
-
Now airy swarms of fluttering dreams descendA
On souls like birds on trees and have no endA
O God from vulture dreams my soul defendA
-
Let fall on Her a rose leaf rain of dreamsF
All passionate sweet as are the loving beamsF
Of starlight on the glimmering woods and streamsF
-
