Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDB EFEFGGF HIJIKKI LFMFHJ NONOPPO QRRROH Cup bearer set my glass afire | A |
With the light of wine oh minstrel sing | B |
The world fulfilleth my heart's desire | C |
Reflected within the goblet's ring | B |
I see the glow of my Love's red cheek | D |
And scant of wit ye who fail to seek | D |
The pleasures that wine alone can bring | B |
- | |
Let not the blandishments be checked | E |
That slender beauties lavish on me | F |
Until in the grace of the cypress decked | E |
My Love shall come like a ruddy pine tree | F |
He cannot perish whose heart doth hold | G |
The life love breathes though my days are told | G |
In the Book of the World lives my constancy | F |
- | |
But when the Day of Reckoning is here | H |
I fancy little will be the gain | I |
That accrues to the Sheikh for his lawful cheer | J |
Or to me for the draught forbidden I drain | I |
The drunken eyes of my comrades shine | K |
And I too stretching my hand to the wine | K |
On the neck of drunkenness loosen the rein | I |
- | |
Oh wind if thou passest the garden close | L |
Of my heart's dear master carry for me | F |
The message I send to him wind that blows | M |
'Why hast thou thrust from thy memory | F |
My hapless name ' breathe low in his ear | H |
'Knowest thou not that the day is near | J |
When nor thou nor any shall think on me ' | - |
- | |
If with tears oh Hafiz thine eyes are wet | N |
Scatter them round thee like grain and snare | O |
The Bird of joy when it comes to thy net | N |
As the tulip shrinks from the cold night air | O |
So shrank my heart and quailed in the shade | P |
Oh Song bird Fortune the toils are laid | P |
When shall thy bright wings lie pinioned there | O |
- | |
The heavens' green sea and the bark therein | Q |
The slender bark of the crescent moon | R |
Are lost in thy bounty's radiant noon | R |
Vizir and pilgrim Kawameddin | R |
