Here Will I Take My Rest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCA DEDEFFD GHGHIJG KLKLMML NONOPPN

My lady that did change this house of mineA
Into a heaven when that she dwelt thereinB
From head to foot an angel's grace divineA
Enwrapped her pure she was spotless of sinB
Fair as the moon her countenance and wiseC
Lords of the kind and tender glance her eyesC
With an abounding loveliness did shineA
-
Then said my heart Here will I take my restD
This city breathes her love in every partE
But to a distant bourne was she addressedD
Alas he knew it not alas poor heartE
The influence of some cold malignant starF
Has loosed my hand that held her lone and farF
She joumeyeth that lay upon my breastD
-
Not only did she lift my bosom's veilG
Reveal its inmost secret but her graceH
Drew back the curtain from Heaven's mansions paleG
And gave her there an eternal dwelling placeH
The flower strewn river lip and meadows fairI
The rose herself but fleeting treasures wereJ
Regret and Winter follow in their trailG
-
Dear were the days which perished with my friendK
Ah what is left of life now she is deadL
All wisdomless and profitless I spendK
The nightingale his own life's blood doth shedL
When to the kisses of the wind the mornM
Unveils the rose's splendour with his tornM
And jealous breast he dyes her petals redL
-
Yet pardon her oh Heart for poor wert thouN
A humble dervish on the dusty wayO
Crowned with the crown of empire was her browN
And in the realms of beauty she bore swayO
But all the joy that Hafiz' hand might holdP
Lay in the beads that morn and eve he toldP
Worn with God's praise and see he holds it nowN
