LORD BUDDHA on thy Lotus throneA
With praying eyes and hands elateB
What mystic rapture dost thou ownA
Immutable and ultimateC
What peace unravished of our kenD
Annihilate from the world of menD
-
The wind of change for ever blowsE
Across the tumult of our wayF
To morrow's unborn griefs deposeE
The sorrows of our yesterdayF
Dream yields to dream strife follows strifeG
And Death unweaves the webs of LifeG
-
For us the travail and the heatH
The broken secrets of our prideI
The strenuous lessons of defeatH
The flower deferred the fruit deniedI
But not the peace supremely wonJ
Lord Buddha of thy Lotus throneA
-
With futile hands we seek to gainK
Our inaccessible desireL
Diviner summits to attainK
With faith that sinks and feet that tireL
But nought shall conquer or controlM
The heavenward hunger of our soulM
-
The end elusive and afarN
Still lures us with its beckoning flightO
And all our mortal moments areN
A session of the InfiniteC
How shall we reach the great unknownA
Nirvana of thy Lotus throneA
