The Silent Battle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCAC BDED FGHG

In Memory of J W T JrA
-
He was a soldier in that fightB
Where there is neither flag nor drumC
And without sound of musketryA
The stealthy foemen comeC
-
Year in year out by day and nightB
They forced him to a slow retreatD
And for his gallant fight aloneE
No fife was blown and no drum beatD
-
In winter fog in gathering mistF
The gray grim battle had its endG
And at the very last we knewH
His enemy had turned his friendG
