He saidA
-
In the winter duskB
When the pavements were gleaming with rainC
I walked thru a dingy streetD
Hurried harassedE
Thinking of all my problems that never are solvedF
Suddenly out of the mist a flaring gas jetG
Shone from a huddled shopH
I saw thru the bleary windowI
A mass of playthingsJ
False faces hung on stringsJ
Valentines paper and tinselK
Tops of scarlet and greenL
Candy marbles jacksM
A confusion of colorN
Pathetically gaudy and cheapO
All of my boyhoodP
Rushed backQ
Once more these things were treasuresR
Wildly desiredS
With covetous eyes I looked again at the marblesT
The precious agates the pee wees the chiniesT
Then I passed onU
-
In the winter duskB
The pavements were gleaming with rainC
There in the lighted windowI
I left my boyhoodP
