September Midnights Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGA CHIJ GKLM

Lyric night of the lingering Indian SummerA
Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singingB
Never a bird but the passionless chant of insectsC
Ceaseless insistentD
-
The grasshopper's horn and far off high in the maplesE
The wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silenceF
Under a moon waning and worn brokenG
Tired with summerA
-
Let me remember you voices of little insectsC
Weeds in the moonlight fields that are tangled with astersH
Let me remember soon will the winter be on usI
Snow hushed and heavyJ
-
Over my soul murmur your mute benedictionG
While I gaze O fields that rest after harvestK
As those who part look long in the eyes they lean toL
Lest they forget themM
