Sea Longing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBCADDAEFFEFEA thousand miles beyond this sun steeped wall | A |
Somewhere the waves creep cool along the sand | B |
The ebbing tide forsakes the listless land | B |
With the old murmur long and musical | C |
The windy waves mount up and curve and fall | A |
And round the rocks the foam blows up like snow | D |
Tho' I am inland far I hear and know | D |
For I was born the sea's eternal thrall | A |
I would that I were there and over me | E |
The cold insistence of the tide would roll | F |
Quenching this burning thing men call the soul | F |
Then with the ebbing I should drift and be | E |
Less than the smallest shell along the shoal | F |
Less than the sea gulls calling to the sea | E |
