Red Maples Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDEF GGHIJJKK

In the last year I have learnedA
How few men are worth my trustB
I have seen the friend I lovedC
Struck by death into the dustB
And fears I never knew beforeD
Have knocked and knocked upon my doorD
I shall hope little and ask for lessE
I said There is no happinessF
-
I have grown wise at last but howG
Can I hide the gleam on the willow boughG
Or keep the fragrance out of the rainH
Now that April is here againI
When maples stand in a haze of fireJ
What can I say to the old desireJ
What shall I do with the joy in meK
That is born out of agonyK
