Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEFGHIBJKLMNOPQ HRHSTWhen the horns wear thin | A |
And the noise like a garment outworn | A |
Falls from the night | B |
The tattered and shivering night | B |
That thinks she is gay | C |
When the patient silence comes back | D |
And retires | E |
And returns | F |
Rebuffed by a ribald song | G |
Wounded by vehement cries | H |
Fleeing again to the stars | I |
Ashamed of her sister the night | B |
Oh then they steal home | J |
The blinded the pitiful ones | K |
With their gew gaws still in their hands | L |
Reeling with odorous breath | M |
And thick coarse words on their tongues | N |
They get them to bed somehow | O |
And sleep the forgiving | P |
Comes thru the scattering tumult | Q |
And closes their eyes | H |
The stars sink down ashamed | R |
And the dawn awakes | H |
Like a youth who steals from a brothel | S |
Dizzy and sick | T |
