Indian Summer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGACHIIGJKL

Lyric night of the lingering Indian summerA
Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singingB
Never a bird but the passionless chant of insectsC
Ceaseless insistentD
The grasshopper's horn and far off high in the maplesE
The wheel of a locust slowly grinding the silenceF
Under a moon waning and warn and brokenG
Tired with summerA
Let me remember you voices of little insectsC
Weeds in the moonlight fields that are tangled with astersH
Let me remember you soon the winter will be on usI
Snow hushed and heartlessI
Over my soul murmur your mute benedictionG
While I gaze oh fields that rest after harvestJ
As those who part look long in the eyes they lean toK
Lest they forget themL
