August Moonrise Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBDDEFFGHHHIIJEJ GKKLMLMNNOOPPQRRSEQQ SE

The sun was gone and the moon was comingA
Over the blue Connecticut hillsB
The west was rosy the east was flushedC
And over my head the swallows rushedC
This way and that with changeful willsB
I heard them twitter and watched them dartD
Now together and now apartD
Like dark petals blown from a treeE
The maples stamped against the westF
Were black and stately and full of restF
And the hazy orange moon grew upG
And slowly changed to yellow goldH
While the hills were darkened fold on foldH
To a deeper blue than a flower could holdH
Down the hill I went and thenI
I forgot the ways of menI
For night scents heady and damp and coolJ
Wakened ecstasy in meE
On the brink of a shining poolJ
-
O Beauty out of many a cupG
You have made me drunk and wildK
Ever since I was a childK
But when have I been sure as nowL
That no bitterness can bendM
And no sorrow wholly bowL
One who loves you to the endM
And though I must give my breathN
And my laughter all to deathN
And my eyes through which joy cameO
And my heart a wavering flameO
If all must leave me and go backP
Along a blind and fearful trackP
So that you can make anewQ
Fusing with intenser fireR
Something nearer your desireR
If my soul must go aloneS
Through a cold infinityE
Or even if it vanish tooQ
Beauty I have worshipped youQ
-
Let this single hour atoneS
For the theft of all of meE
