To A Lady, With Falconer's 'shipwreck' Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ CCCC CKCK

Oh not by Cam or Isis famous streamsA
In arched groves the youthful poet's choiceB
Nor while half listening mid delicious dreamsA
To harp and song from lady's hand and voiceB
-
Nor yet while gazing in sublimer moodC
On cliff or cataract in Alpine dellD
Nor in dim cave with bladdery sea weed strewedC
Framing wild fancies to the ocean's swellD
-
Our sea bard sang this song which still he singsE
And sings for thee sweet friend Hark Pity harkF
Now mounts now totters on the tempest's wingsE
Now groans and shivers the replunging barkF
-
'Cling to the shrouds ' In vain The breakers roarG
Death shrieks With two alone of all his clanH
Forlorn the poet paced the Grecian shoreG
No classic roamer but a ship wrecked manH
-
Say then what muse inspired these genial strainsI
And lit his spirit to so bright a flameJ
The elevating thought of suffered painsI
Which gentle hearts shall mourn but chief the nameJ
-
Of gratitude remembrance of friendC
Or absent or no more shades of the PastC
Which Loves make substance Hence to thee I sendC
O dear as long as life and memory lastC
-
I send with deep regards of heart and headC
Sweet maid for friendship formed this work to theeK
And thou the while thou canst not choose but shedC
A tear for Falconer wilt remember meK
