The Visionary Hope Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBABCABADEDEEFGGF HHDDIIJK

Sad lot to have no Hope Though lowly kneelingA
He fain would frame a prayer within his breastB
Would fain entreat for some sweet breath of healingA
That his sick body might have ease and restB
He strove in vain the dull sighs from his chestB
Against his will the stifling load revealingA
Though Nature forced though like some captive guestB
Some royal prisoner at his conqueror's feastC
An alien's restless mood but half concealingA
The sternness on his gentle brow confessedB
Sickness within and miserable feelingA
Though obscure pangs made curses of his dreamsD
And dreaded sleep each night repelled in vainE
Each night was scattered by its own loud screamsD
Yet never could his heart command though fainE
One deep full wish to be no more in painE
That Hope which was his inward bliss and boastF
Which waned and died yet ever near him stoodG
Though changed in nature wander where he wouldG
For Love's Despair is but Hope's pining GhostF
For this one hope he makes his hourly moanH
He wishes and can wish for this aloneH
Pierced as with light from Heaven before its gleamsD
So the love stricken visionary deemsD
Disease would vanish like a summer showerI
Whose dews fling sunshine from the noon tide bowerI
Or let it stay yet this one Hope should giveJ
Such strength that he would bless his pains and liveK
