The Good, Great Man Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAD E FFFFGGHIHI

'How seldom friend a good great man inheritsA
Honour or wealth with all his worth and painsB
It sounds like stories from the land of spiritsC
If any man obtain that which he meritsA
Or any merit that which he obtains 'D

-
For shame dear friend renounce this canting strainF
What would'st thou have a good great man obtainF
Place titles salary a gilded chainF
Or throne of corses which his sword had slainF
Greatness and goodness are not means but endsG
Hath he not always treasures always friendsG
The good great man three treasures LOVE and LIGHTH
And CALM THOUGHTS regular as infant's breathI
And three firm friends more sure than day and nightH
HIMSELF his MAKER and the ANGEL DEATHI
