Sonnet Xiii. To La Fayette Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFDFDGG

As when far off the warbled strains are heardA
That soar on Morning's wing the vales amongB
Within his cage th' imprisoned matin birdA
Swells the full chorus with a generous songC
He bathes no pinion in the dewy lightD
No Father's joy no Lover's bliss he sharesE
Yet still the rising radiance cheers his sightD
His Fellows' freedom soothes the Captive's caresE
Thou Fayette who didst wake with startling voiceF
Life's better Sun from that long wintry nightD
Thus in thy Country's triumphs shalt rejoiceF
And mock with raptures high the dungeon's mightD
For lo the morning struggles into dayG
And Slavery's spectres shriek and vanish from the rayG
