Sonnet Viii. To Mercy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFFEGG

Not always should the tear's ambrosial dewA
Roll its soft anguish down thy furrowed cheekB
Not always heaven breathed tones of suppliance meekB
Beseem thee Mercy Yon dark Scowler viewA
Who with proud words of dear loved Freedom cameC
More blasting than the mildew from the southD
And kissed his country with Iscariot mouthD
Ah foul apostate from his Father's fameC
Then fixed her on the cross of deep distressE
And at safe distance marks the thirsty lanceF
Pierce her big side But oh if some strange tranceF
The eye lids of thy stern browed Sister pressE
Seize Mercy thou more terrible the brandG
And hurl her thunderbolts with fiercer handG
