Sonnet Vii. To Burke Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFEFGH

As late I lay in Slumber's shadowy valeA
With wetted cheek and in a mourner's guiseB
I saw the sainted form of FREEDOM riseB
She spake not sadder moans the autumnal galeA
'Great Son of Genius sweet to me thy nameC
Ere in an evil hour with alter'd voiceD
Thou bad'st Oppression's hireling crew rejoiceD
Blasting with wizard spell my laurell'd fameC
Yet never Burke thou drank'st Corruption's bowlE
Thee stormy Pity and the cherished lureF
Of Pomp and proud Precipitance of soulE
Wildered with meteor fires Ah Spirit pureF
That error's mist had left thy purged eyeG
So might I clasp thee with a Mother's joy 'H
