Rhyme Scheme: ABCDCDEFEFGHHGFFEIEI JJKLMMNNOOPQPQNNRRNN SSSTTNUUNVVEENRRNVWX WVX

Blue was the loch the clouds were goneA
Ben Lomond in his glory shoneB
When Luss I left thee when the breezeC
Bore me from thy silver sandsD
Thy kirk yard wall among the treesC
Where grey with age the dial standsD
That dial so well known to meE
Tho' many a shadow it had shedF
Beloved Sister since with theeE
The legend on the stone was readF
The fairy isles fled far awayG
That with its woods and uplands greenH
Where shepherd huts are dimly seenH
And songs are heard at close of dayG
That too the deer's wild covert fledF
And that the Asylum of the DeadF
While as the boat went merrilyE
Much of ROB ROY the boat man toldI
His arm that fell below his kneeE
His cattle ford and mountain holdI
Tarbet thy shore I climb'd at lastJ
And thy shady region pass'dJ
Upon another shore I stoodK
And look'd upon another floodL
Great Ocean's self 'Tis He who fillsM
That vast and awful depth of hillsM
Where many an elf was playing roundN
Who treads unshod his classic groundN
And speaks his native rocks amongO
As FINGAL spoke and OSSIAN sungO
Night fell and dark and darker grewP
That narrow sea that narrow skyQ
As o'er the glimmering waves we flewP
The sea bird rustling wailing byQ
And now the grampus half descriedN
Black and huge above the tideN
The cliffs and promontories thereR
Front to front and broad and bareR
Each beyond each with giant feetN
Advancing as in haste to meetN
The shatter'd fortress whence the DaneS
Blew his shrill blast nor rush'd in vainS
Tyrant of the drear domainS
All into midnight shadow sweepT
When day springs upward from the deepT
Kindling the waters in its flightN
The prow wakes splendour and the oarU
That rose and fell unseen beforeU
Flashes in a sea of lightN
Glad sign and sure for now we hailV
Thy flowers Glenfinart in the galeV
And bright indeed the path should beE
That leads to Friendship and to TheeE
Oh blest retreat and sacred tooN
Sacred as when the bell of prayerR
Toll'd duly on the desert airR
And crosses deck'd thy summits blueN
Oft like some lov'd romantic taleV
Oft shall my weary mind recallW
Amid the hum and stir of menX
Thy beechen grove and waterfallW
Thy ferry with its gliding sailV
And Her the Lady of the GlenX
