Vane quid affectas faciem mihi ponere pictorA

-
Once more Enchantress of the soulB
Once more we hail thy soft controulB
Yet whither whither did'st thou flyB
To what bright region of the skyB
Say in what distant star to dwellB
Of other worlds thou seemst to tellB
Or trembling fluttering here belowB
Resolv'd and unresolv'd to goB
In secret didst thou still impartD
Thy raptures to the Pure in heartD
Perhaps to many a desert shoreA
Thee in his rage the Tempest boreA
Thy broken murmurs swept alongE
Mid Echoes yet untun'd by songE
Arrested in the realms of FrostF
Or in the wilds of Ether lostF
Far happier thou 'twas thine to soarA
Careering on the winged windG
Thy triumphs who shall dare exploreA
Suns and their systems left behindG
No tract of space no distant starA
No shock of elements at warA
Did thee detain Thy wing of fireA
Bore thee amidst the Cherub choirA
And there awhile to thee 'twas giv'nH
Once more that Voice Footnote belov'd to joinH
Which taught thee first a flight divineH
And nurs'd thy infant years with many a strain from Heav'nH
