The Sailor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIJI KLAL MNMN OPOP QQQQ

The Sailor sighs as sinks his native shoreA
As all its lessening turrets bluely fadeB
He climbs the mast to feast his eye once moreA
And busy Fancy fondly lends her aidB
-
Ah now each dear domestic scene he knewC
Recall'd and cherish'd in a foreign climeD
Charms with the magic of a moonlight viewC
Its colours mellow'd not impair'd by timeD
-
True as the needle homeward points his heartE
Thro' all the horrors of the stormy mainF
This the last wish that would with life departE
To meet the smile of her he loves againG
-
When Morn first faintly draws her silver lineH
Or Eve's grey cloud descends to drink the waveI
When sea and sky in midnight darkness joinJ
Still still he views the parting look she gaveI
-
Her gentle spirit lightly hovering o'erK
Attends his little bark from pole to poleL
And when the beating billows round him roarA
Whispers sweet hope to sooth his troubled soulL
-
Carv'd is her name in many a spicy groveM
In many a plaintain forest waving wideN
Where dusky youths in painted plumage roveM
And giant palms o'er arch the golden tideN
-
But lo at last he comes with crowded sailO
Lo o'er the cliff what eager figures bendP
And hark what mingled murmurs swell the galeO
In each he hears the welcome of a friendP
-
'Tis she 'tis she herself she waves her handQ
Soon is the anchor cast the canvass furl'dQ
Soon thro' the whitening surge he springs to landQ
And clasps the maid he singled from the worldQ
