An Italian Song. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDD EFEFGG HIAIAA

Dear is my little native valeA
The ring dove builds and murmurs thereB
Close by my cot she tells her taleA
To every passing villagerC
The squirrel leaps from tree to treeD
And shells his nuts at libertyD
-
In orange groves and myrtle bowersE
That breathe a gale of fragrance roundF
I charm the fairy footed hoursE
With my lov'd lute's romantic soundF
Or crowns of living laurel weaveG
For those that win the race at eveG
-
The shepherd's horn at break of dayH
The ballet danc'd in twilight gladeI
The canzonet and roundelayA
Sung in the silent green wood shadeI
These simple joys that never failA
Shall bind me to my native valeA
