| We left no stone unturned in achieving | B |
| The aforementioned goal | C |
| Alas our most sought after degrees | D |
| Lay idly on the shelves covered with dust | E |
| Year after year without being put to practise | D |
| They told us that the youth would be the leaders of tomorrow | F |
| It has been many years now since | D |
| They inscribed this norm on the wall of our sickened mind | G |
| The methuselahs have refused to let the seeds | D |
| Of our lofty dreams find their nursery grounds | D |
| What do we make do with | H |
| When they have left us with nothing | B |
| They had told us that hard work pays | D |
| And that integrity and honor were the code | I |
| That one needs to live by | J |
| I look at my world today | K |
| Everything they told us became a lie | J |
| The watchwords we fought so hard to follow | F |
| Turned some of us into objects of ridicule | L |
| They had told us that crime does not pay | K |
| All around us we see how well crime has been paying them | M |
| The few decent honest breed amongst us | D |
| Are now weary from fruitless job applications | D |
| While rascals who couldn't return | N |
| With their unmerited degrees | D |
| Are now the ones toiling with our futures | D |
| Daily the dusk bleeds into dawn | O |
| And our battered hopes have refused | P |
| To materialize | D |
| They lied to us about many things | D |
| They have made us to understand that love | Q |
| Is a distraction | R |
| In us they have sown the seeds of hatred | S |
| And whatever this new sensibility yields | D |
| We the unlucky folks of this wasteland | T |
| Are ready to make the most of it | U |

Poet's note: Looking at life in general, and so many of my fruitless attempts I got compelled to write this poem. It's about so many of the mantras that we held dearly, that we go on unable to question the rationale behind them, even though we know they defy logic.
