They had told us that education is the key
We left no stone unturned in achieving
The aforementioned goal.
Alas our most-sought-after degrees
Lay idly on the shelves covered with dust
Year after year without being put to practise
They told us that the youth would be the leaders of tomorrow
It has been many years now since
They inscribed this norm on the wall of our sickened mind.
The methuselahs have refused to let the seeds
Of our lofty dreams find their nursery grounds.
What do we make do with
When they have left us with nothing?.
They had told us that hard work pays
And that integrity and honor were the code
That one needs to live by.
I look at my world today,
Everything they told us became a lie
The watchwords we fought so hard to follow
Turned some of us into objects of ridicule
They had told us that crime does not pay
All around us, we see how well crime has been paying them.
The few decent honest breed amongst us
Are now weary from fruitless job applications.
While rascals who couldn't return
With their unmerited degrees
Are now the ones toiling with our futures.
Daily, the dusk bleeds into dawn
And our battered hopes have refused
To materialize.
They lied to us about many things...
They have made us to understand that love
Is a distraction.
In us they have sown the seeds of hatred
And whatever this new sensibility yields
We the unlucky folks of this wasteland
Are ready to make the most of it.
