Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJ KLCMHNOPQR STHUVWXXK XCYXZ LCA2B2ADXC2CD2

The spider was there when we moved inA
basking on a sunlit bit of wallB
waving its front legs in greetingC
Dad said it was a cheeky bastardD
then checking his language ampE
waxing more lyrical calledF
the huntsman an eight legged foxG
Dad put the spider outsideH
catching it gently in a glass spider jarI
amp letting it loose in the backyardJ
-
But it kept coming back that cheekyK
eight legged bastard Calling a spiderL
a fox cut no ice with us And Dad kept catchingC
him in the spider jar amp tossing himM
into the backyard saying he should be outsideH
hunting rats amp taking his chances with the catN
Out you go quick smartO
For weeks this went on Dad with excuses likeP
spiders belong under rocks or what ifQ
it scares the kids But we weren't scaredR
-
Huntsmen should be out hunting Dad announcedS
catching the poor cheeky bastard by surpriseT
in the spider jar and letting him outsideH
But that night after Dad had been smoking theU
spider was back inhaling the blue airV
The cheeky bastard beckoned with his front legsW
follow me and demonstrated the webbed trapsX
'round the house with trapped flies moths amp mozziesX
an impressive bountyK
-
From that day on they were great matesX
Dad'd stay up late reading amp writingC
amp the spider would appear on the door frameY
to relax or flamboyantly hunt mothsX
buzzing the lightZ
-
Then one day Dad found the spiderL
half dead with three legs missingC
under a toy car I can't say who did itA2
The cat had sneaked in the night beforeB2
The cat was never allowed inA
I mean the privileges accorded that cheeky bastardD
seemed a little undue the run of the houseX
staying up late with DadC2
reading writing havingC
funD2
