Remember back in the early sixtiesA
The ridge was a scrap metal dumpB
Wasteland without a decent treeC
At the periphery workshops recycledD
Banged and hammered weldedE
Old steel joists and car body partsF
Household junk permanently carked itG
Hot water systems corrugated roofsH
Pipes bathtubs from the iron ageI
Washing machines fridges andJ
Vacuums found their way to appliance heavenK
While the insides of ruined PyeL
Television sets were kicked downM
The hillside for sport Waste wire wasN
Restored by a cottage wire industryC
Sparks flew up out backO
Apprentices scraped rust and gunkO
How metal flowed sweetly and everyoneK
Was handy the drills and steel cutters buzzedP
Junk a junk there was smash repairQ
Domestic nail and bolt manufacture asR
Far as earnings went it all added upS
To an almost worthwhile enterpriseT
But the scrap mountain grew quickerU
Than the workshops could break it downM
There was real estate all aroundV
So the responsible authorityC
Ordered the lot buried under a mountain of earthW
And trees planted on topX
Forest grew quickly and todayY
After a big rain has shifted the clayY
Exposing a snow gum's rootsZ
There'll be a rusted out AustinK
Or the roof of a ValiantA2
A web of cyclone fencingO
Relic of glorious metal daysB2
Rest of the junk compresses underU
Ghost gums rough grass and walking trailsC2
Today fresh air grows from itG
And the odd unexterminated rabbitD2
Flashes out of sightE2
