Mekong Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDDEFGDDFHIHFJKFF FLMN

Happy Viet Cong and their childrenA
live now on the Mekong Delta cone hatsB
smiles motors' chug is the river's heartbeatC
and the river here's deep and wide as the seaD
Restaurateurs sidle up in rowboatsD
serve bread soup and endless speciesD
of noodles tea coffee beer and pythonE
the dishes are washed clean in the riverF
Dug out canoes and basket boats wobbleG
and children hang on to tyres and logsD
swim float on their backsD
anything to be in the waterF
more fish here than the AtlanticH
and enough snakes to feed ChinaI
You can go ashore to buy something electricH
or catch a bus to some place drierF
and even there will be waterloggedJ
rice growing everywhere The rain slants downK
to make things wetter whip up the riverF
like a rough day in harbourF
There's no land no water richerF
moonlight swims with the carpL
the moon's eye looking outM
from every prowN
