Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG ADHIJKLMN OPOHOQRO SMN

The clouds are always thereA
ringing three peaksB
busy with lightning ampC
thunder grumblingD
the place clouds are bornE
to water the fieldsF
and forests of VietnamG
-
You must be light as airA
to receive a tree frog's blessingD
then take the path to the cloud pagodaH
at the summit of Ba ViI
where a nun lives to tend the shrineJ
light incense sticksK
and burn the ceremonial moneyL
arrange flowers left by pilgrimsM
in offering to the cloudsN
-
Quiet time the forest watches over herO
she meditates clouds until nightP
sleeps on a cane mat before the sweet altarO
the clouds round Ba Vi swirl through the pagodaH
wrap her in glowing vapourO
make images of her cloud dreamsQ
and if the clouds dreamR
they dream of herO
-
Sunrise she gathers the flowersS
left by day tripping pilgrimsM
and throws them to the cloudsN
