The Storm Cone Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHI JKLL MNDD

This is the midnight let no starA
Delude us dawn is very farA
This is the tempest long foretoldB
Slow to make head but sure to holdB
-
Stand by The lull 'twixt blast and blastC
Signals the storm is near not pastC
And worse than present jeopardyD
May our forlorn to morrow beD
-
If we have cleared the expectant reefE
Let no man look for his reliefE
Only the darkness hides the shapeF
Of further peril to escapeF
-
It is decreed that we abideG
The weight of gale against the tideG
And those huge waves the outer mainH
Sends in to set us back againI
-
They fall and whelm We strain to hearJ
The pulses of her labouring gearK
Till the deep throb beneath us provesL
After each shudder and check she movesL
-
She moves with all save purpose lostM
To make her offing from the coastN
But till she fetches open seaD
Let no man deem that he is freeD
