Rhyme Scheme: ABACDDEFEG HIHJKK LMLMNN OPOPQR STSTUU UUUUVL WUWUXX YZYZA2B2 C2UUU

The overfaithful sword returns the userA
His heart's desire at price of his heart's bloodB
The clamour of the arrogant accuserA
Wastes that one hour we needed to make goodC
This was foretold of old at our outgoingD
This we accepted who have squandered knowingD
The strength and glory of our reputationsE
At the day's need as it were dross to guardF
The tender and new dedicate foundationsE
Against the sea we fear not man's awardG
-
They that dig foundations deepH
Fit for realms to rise uponI
Little honour do they reapH
Of their generationJ
Any more than mountains gainK
Stature till we reach the plainK
-
With noveil before their faceL
Such as shroud or sceptre lendM
Daily in the market placeL
Of one height to foe and friendM
They must cheapen self to findN
Ends uncheapened for mankindN
-
Through the night when hirelings restO
Sleepless they arise aloneP
The unsleeping arch to testO
And the o'er trusted corner stoneP
'Gainst the need they know that liesQ
Hid behind the centuriesR
-
Not by lust of praise or showS
Not by Peace herself betrayedT
Peace herself must they foregoS
Till that peace be fitly madeT
And in single strength upholdU
Wearier hands and hearts acoldU
-
On the stage their act hath framedU
For thy sports O LibertyU
Doubted are they and defamedU
By the tongues their act set freeU
While they quicken tend and raiseV
Power that must their power displaceL
-
Lesser men feign greater goalsW
Failing whereof they may sitU
Scholarly to judge the soulsW
That go down into the pitU
And despite its certain clayX
Heave a new world towards the dayX
-
These at labour make no signY
More than planets tides or yearsZ
Which discover God's designY
Not our hopes and not our fearsZ
Nor in aught they gain or loseA2
Seek a triumph or excuseB2
-
For so the Ark be borne to Zion whoC2
Heeds how they perished or were paid that bore itU
For so the Shrine abide what shame what prideU
If we the priests were bound or crowned before itU
