The Penalty Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCD EFGHCD IJKJCC

Once in life I watched a StarA
But I whistled quot Let her goB
There are others fairer farA
Which my favouring skies shall showB
Here I lied and herein IC
Stood to pay the penaltyD
-
Marvellous the Planets shoneE
As I ranged from coast to coastF
But beyond comparisonG
Rode the Star that I had lostH
I had lied and only IC
Did not guess the penaltyD
-
When my Heavens were turned to bloodI
When the dark had filled my dayJ
Furthest but most faithful stoodK
That lone Star I cast awayJ
I had loved myself and IC
Have not lived and dare not dieC
