'The eradication of memories of the Great War SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT ORGANA
-
The Socialist Government speaksB
-
THOUGH all the Dead were all forgotC
And razed were every tombD
The Worm the Worm that dieth notC
Compels Us to our doomD
Though all which once was England standsE
Subservient to Our willF
The Dead of whom we washed Our handsE
They have observance stillF
-
We laid no finger to Their loadG
We multiplied Their woesH
We used Their dearly opened roadG
To traffic with Their foesH
And yet to Them men turn their eyesI
To Them are vows renewedJ
Of Faith Obedience SacrificeK
Honour and FortitudeJ
-
Which things must perish But Our hourL
Comes not by staves or swordsM
So much as subtly through the powerL
Of small corroding wordsN
No need to make the plot more plainO
By any open thrustP
But see Their memory is slainO
Long ere Their bones are dustP
-
Wisely but yearly filch some wreathQ
Lay some proud rite asideR
And daily tarnish with Our breathS
The ends for which They diedR
Distract deride decry confuseT
Or if it serves Us prayU
So presently We break the useV
And meaning of Their dayU
