Harp Song Of The Dane Women Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAA BBB CCC DDD EEE FFF GGG AAA

What is a woman that you forsake herA
And the hearth fire and the home acreA
To go with the old grey Widow makerA
-
She has no house to lay a guest inB
But one chill bed for all to rest inB
That the pale suns and the stray bergs nest inB
-
She has no strong white arms to fold youC
But the ten times fingering weed to hold youC
Out on the rocks where the tide has rolled youC
-
Yet when the signs of summer thickenD
And the ice breaks and the birch buds quickenD
Yearly you turn from our side and sickenD
-
Sicken again for the shouts and the slaughtersE
You steal away to the lapping watersE
And look at your ship in her winter quartersE
-
You forget our mirth and talk at the tablesF
The kine in the shed and the horse in the stablesF
To pitch her sides and go over her cablesF
-
Then you drive out where the storm clouds swallowG
And the sound of your oar blades falling hollowG
Is all we have left through the months to followG
-
Ah what is Woman that you forsake herA
And the hearth fire and the home acreA
To go with the old grey Widow makerA
