Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDEDB FGFG HIHIHI JBJBJB KBKBKB ALAB MBMBMB NONO BPBPPEEP

To the City of BombayA
-
-
The Cities are full of prideB
Challenging each to eachC
This from her mountain sideB
That from her burthened beachC
-
They count their ships full taleD
Their corn and oil and wineE
Derrick and loom and baleD
And rampart's gun flecked lineE
City by City they hailD
quot Hast aught to match with mine quotB
-
And the men that breed from themF
They traffic up and downG
But cling to their cities' hemF
As a child to their mother's gownG
-
When they talk with the stranger bandsH
Dazed and newly aloneI
When they walk in the stranger landsH
By roaring streets unknownI
Blessing her where she standsH
For strength above their ownI
-
On high to hold her fameJ
That stands all fame beyondB
By oath to back the sameJ
Most faithful foolish fondB
Making her mere breathed nameJ
Their bond upon their bondB
-
So thank I God my birthK
Fell not in isles asideB
Waste headlands of the earthK
Or warring tribes untriedB
But that she lent me worthK
And gave me right to prideB
-
Surely in toil or frayA
Under an alien skyL
Comfort it is to sayA
quot Of no mean city am I quotB
-
Neither by service nor feeM
Come I to mine estateB
Mother of Cities to meM
For I was born in her gateB
Between the palms and the seaM
Where the world end steamers waitB
-
Now for this debt I oweN
And for her far borne cheerO
Must I make haste and goN
With tribute to her pierO
-
And she shall touch and remitB
After the use of kingsP
Orderly ancient fitB
My deep sea plunderingsP
And purchase in all landsP
And this we do for a signE
Her power is over mineE
And mine I hold at her handsP
