The Gods that are wiser than LearningB
But kinder than Life have made sureC
No mortal may boast in the morningB
That even will find him secureC
With naught for fresh faith or new trialD
With little unsoiled or unsoldE
Can the shadow go back on the dialD
Or a new world be given for the oldE
But he knows not that time shall awakenF
As he knows not what tide shall lay bareG
The heart of a man to be takenF
Taken and changed unawareG
-
He shall see as he tenders his vowsH
The far guarded City ariseI
The power of the North 'twixt Her browsH
The steel of the North in Her eyesI
The sheer hosts of Heaven aboveJ
The grey warlock Ocean besideK
And shall feel the full centuries moveL
To Her purpose and prideK
-
Though a stranger shall he understandM
As though it were old in his bloodN
The lives that caught fire 'neath Her handM
The fires that were tamed to Her moodO
And the roar of the wind shall refashionF
And the wind driven torches recallP
The passing of Time and the passionF
Of Youth over allP
And by virtue of magic unspokenF
What need She should utter Her powerQ
The frost at his heart shall be brokenF
And his spirit be changed in that hourQ
Changed and renewed in that hourQ
