Virgin Of Bethlehem Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BCBC DEDE FGFG HBHB

Virgin of Bethlehem spouse of the Holy OneA
Star of the pilgrim on life s stormy seaB
Humbler thy lot was than this world s most lowly oneA
List to the prayers that we offer to theeB
-
Not for the joys that this false earth bestowethB
Empty and fleeting as April sunshineC
But for the grace that from holiness flowethB
Grace purest Mother that always was thineC
-
Charity ardent and zeal that aboundedD
Thine was the will of thy Father aboveE
Thus thy life s fervor so strangely confoundedD
Cold hearts that mocked at religion s pure loveE
-
Meekness in suffering patience excellingF
Bowed thee unmurm ring beneath sorrow s rodG
Spirit of purity ever indwellingF
Made thee the Temple and Mother of GodG
-
These are the gifts that thy children imploreH
With hearts warmly beating and low bended kneeB
Oh ask of thy Son whom we humbly adoreH
To grant us the prayers that we whisper to theeB
