To The Soldiers Of Pius Ninth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGAHAH IJIJKLKL KMKMNCNC

Warriors true tis no false gloryA
For which now you peril lifeB
For no worthless aim unholyA
Do ye plunge into the strifeB
No unstable fleeting visionC
Bright before your gaze hath shoneD
No day dream of wild ambitionC
Now your footsteps urges onE
-
But a cause both great and gloriousF
Worthy of a Christian s mightG
One which yet shall be victoriousF
Tis the cause of God and rightG
Men by aim more pure and holyA
Say could soldiers be enticedH
Strike for truth and conscience solelyA
Strike for Pius and for ChristH
-
Even like the brave CrusadersI
Heroes true and tried of oldJ
You would check the rash invadersI
Of all that we sacred holdJ
And though hosts your steps beleaguerK
Full of might and martial prideL
For the conflict be you eagerK
God Himself will be your guideL
-
Soldiers of the Cross rememberK
In the cause you fight for nowM
Tis not earthly wreaths you gatherK
To adorn the dauntless browM
But the laurels bright unfadingN
Never from you to be rivenC
Which will yet your brows be shadingN
In the shining courts of HeavenC
