Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGIJJ HKLKMM NONOPP GQGQRR

Fair tiny rosebud what a tideA
Of hidden joy o erpow ring deepB
Of grateful love of woman s prideA
Thrills through my heart till I must weepB
With bliss to look on thee my sonC
My first born child my darling oneC
-
What joy for me to sit and gazeD
Upon thy gentle baby faceE
And dreaming of far distant daysD
With mother s weakness strive to traceE
Tokens of future greatness highF
On thy smooth brow and lustrous eyeF
-
What do I wish thee darling sayG
Is it that lordly mental powerH
That o er thy kind will give thee swayG
Unchanging full a glorious dowerI
For those whose minds may grasp its worthJ
True rulers and true kings of earthJ
-
Or would I ask for thee that fireH
Of wond rous genius great divineK
The spell that charms the poet s lyreL
Till like a halo it will shineK
Around a name praised honored sungM
In distant climes by many a tongueM
-
Ah no my child with such vain themesN
I will not mar thy quiet restO
Nor wish ambition s restless dreamsN
Infused into thy tranquil breastO
Too soon will manhood s weight of careP
O ercloud that waxen brow so fairP
-
For thee my Babe I only prayG
Thou lt live to bless thy parents loveQ
To be their hope their earthly stayG
And gaining grace from heaven aboveQ
Tread in the path the good have trodR
True to thy country and thy GodR
