The Whispers Of Time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEAA FFGGBB HHIIJJ

What does time whisper youth gay and lightA
While thinning thy locks silken and brightA
While paling thy soft cheek s roseate dyeB
Dimming the light of thy flashing eyeB
Stealing thy bloom and freshness awayC
Is he not hinting at death decayC
-
Man in the wane of thy stately primeD
Hear st thou the silent warnings of TimeD
Look at thy brow ploughed by anxious careE
The silver hue of thy once dark hairE
What boot thine honors thy treasures brightA
When Time tells of coming gloom and nightA
-
Sad age dost thou note thy strength nigh spentF
How slow thy footstep thy form how bentF
Yet on looking back how short doth seemG
The checkered coarse of thy life s brief dreamG
Time daily weakening each link and tieB
Doth whisper how soon thou art to dieB
-
O what a weary world were oursH
With that thought to cloud our brightest hoursH
Did we not know that beyond the skiesI
A land of beauty and promise tiesI
Where peaceful and blessed we will love adoreJ
When Time itself shall be no moreJ
