The Fall Of The Leaf Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEGHIJI KLKLDFDG

Earnest and sad the solemn taleA
That the sighing winds give backB
Scatt ring the leaves with mournful wailA
O er the forest s faded trackB
Gay summer birds have left us nowC
For a warmer brighter climeD
Where no leaden sky or leafless boughC
Tell of change and winter timeD
-
Reapers have gathered golden storeE
Of maize and ripened grainF
And they ll seek the lonely fields no moreE
Till the springtide comes againG
But around the homestead s blazing hearthH
Will they find sweet rest from toilI
And many an hour of harmless mirthJ
While the snow storm piles the soilI
-
Then why should we grieve for summer skiesK
For its shady trees its flowersL
Or the thousand light and pleasant tiesK
That endeared the sunny hoursL
A few short months of snow and stormD
Of winter s chilling reignF
And summer with smiles and glances warmD
Will gladden our earth againG
