Ye gallant sons of toil | B |
No nobler trophy could ye raise | C |
On your adopted soil | B |
Than this monument to your kindred dead | D |
Who sleep beneath in their cold dark bed | D |

Like you they left their fatherland | E |
And crossed th Atlantic s foam | F |
To seek for themselves a new career | G |
And win another home | F |
But alas for hearts that had beat so high | H |
They reached the goal but only to die | H |

Let no rich worldling dare to say | I |
For them why should we grieve | J |
But paupers came they to our shores | K |
Want sickness death to leave | J |
Each active arm jail of power and health | L |
And each honest heart was a mine of wealth | L |

Twas a mournful end to day dreams high | H |
A sad and fearful doom | M |
To exchange their fever stricken ships | N |
For the loathsome typhus tomb | M |
And ere they had smiled at Canada s sky | H |
On this stranger land breathe their dying sigh | H |

The loving wife the rose cheeked girl | Q |
Fairer than opening flower | P |
The ardent youth with fond hopes elate | R |

The epochs of their short career | G |
Mere footprints on life s sand | E |
