The Boy-s Appeal Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAC DEFEGFHF IDJDKLML NOOOOOPO LQRQSALA

O say dear sister are you comingA
Forth to the fields with meB
The very air is gaily ringingA
With hum of bird and beeB
And crowds of swallows now are chirpingA
Up in our ancient thornC
And earth and air are both rejoicingA
On this gay summer mornC
-
Shall we hie unto the streamlet s sideD
To seek our little boatE
And plying our oars with right good willF
Over its bright waves floatE
Or shall we loll on the grassy bankG
For hours dreamy stillF
To draw from its depths some silv ry prizeH
Reward of angler s skillF
-
I do not talk of the tempting gameI
The forest covers hideD
So dear to the sportsman plovers shyJ
Pheasants with eye of prideD
For I know your timid nature shrinksK
From flash of fire arm brightL
And the birds themselves hear not the dinM
With more intense affrightL
-
But we may tread the cool wood s pathsN
And wander there for hoursO
Discovering hidden fairy dellsO
Be gemmed with lovely flowersO
And while you weave them in varied wreathsO
In oaks of giant sizeO
I ll seek for nests of cunning shapeP
I too must win some prizeO
-
Then sister listen squander notL
These hours of precious timeQ
With stupid book or useless workR
It is indeed a crimeQ
But haste with me to the wood lands greenS
Where forest warblers singA
And bees are humming like them tooL
We must be on the wingA
