Sea-shore Musings Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

How oft I ve longed to gaze on theeA
Thou proud and mighty deepB
Thy vast horizon boundless freeA
Thy coast so rude and steepB
And now entranced I breathless standC
Where earth and ocean meetD
Whilst billows wash the golden sandC
And break around my feetD
-
Lovely thou art when dawn s red lightE
Sheds o er thee its soft hueF
Showing fair ships a gallant sightE
Upon thy waters blueF
And when the moonbeams softly pourG
Their light on wave or glenH
And diamond spray leaps on the shoreG
How lovely art thou thenH
-
Still as I look faint shadows stealI
O er thy calm heaving breastJ
And there are times I sadly feelI
Thou art not thus at restJ
And I bethink me of past talesK
Of ships that left the shoreG
And meeting with thy fearful galesK
Have ne er been heard of moreG
-
They say thy depths hold treasures rareL
Groves coral sands of goldM
Pearls fitted for a monarch s wearL
And gems of worth untoldM
But these could not to life restoreG
The idol of one homeN
Nor make brave hearts beat high once moreG
That sleep beneath thy foamN
-
But I must chase such thoughts awayO
They mar this happy hourP
Remembering thou dost but obeyO
Thy Great Creator s powerP
And in my own fair inland homeN
Mysterious moaning mainQ
In dreams I ll see thy snow white foamN
And frowning rocks againH
