Our Saviour-s Boyhood Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDD EFGFHH IJKLMM FNFNOO PNQNRR SMTMRR UVWVXY ZA2B2A2C2C2With what a flood of wondrous thoughts | A |
Each Christian breast must swell | B |
When wandering back through ages past | C |
With simple faith they dwell | B |
On quiet Nazareth s sacred sod | D |
Where the Child Saviour s footsteps trod | D |
- | |
Awe struck we picture to ourselves | E |
That brow serene and fair | F |
That gentle face the long rich curls | G |
Of wavy golden hair | F |
And those deep wondrous star like eyes | H |
Holy and calm as midnight skies | H |
- | |
We see Him in the work shop shed | I |
With Joseph wise and good | J |
Obedient to His guardian s word | K |
Docile and meek of mood | L |
The Mighty Lord of Heaven and Earth | M |
Toiling like one of lowly birth | M |
- | |
Or else with His young Mother fair | F |
That sinless spotless one | N |
Who watched with fond and reverent care | F |
Her high and glorious Son | N |
Knowing a matron s joy and pride | O |
And yet a Virgin pure beside | O |
- | |
All marvelled at the strange shy grace | P |
Of Mary s gentle Son | N |
Young mothers envied her the Boy | Q |
Who love from all hearts won | N |
And gazing on that face so mild | R |
Prayed low to Heaven for such a child | R |
- | |
Though with the boys of Nazareth | S |
He never joined in mirth | M |
Yet young and old felt strangely drawn | T |
Towards His modest worth | M |
E en though that quiet wondrous Child | R |
Had never laughed nor even smiled | R |
- | |
For even then prophetic rose | U |
Before His spirit s gaze | V |
The cruel Cross the griefs reserved | W |
For manhood s coming days | V |
And worse than all the countless host | X |
That spite His pangs might yet be lost | Y |
- | |
Silent and calm He held His way | Z |
From morn till evening still | A2 |
His thoughts intent on working out | B2 |
His Mighty Father s will | A2 |
While Heaven bent in ecstasy | C2 |
O er the Boy God of Galilee | C2 |
